BLASTBACK
Blastback is the game I worked on in my first year developed over 3 months. Our team consisted of 1 writer, 1 animator, 2 designers, 2 artists and 3 programmers.
About the game
Blastback is a top down twin-stick shooter set in a futuristic earth where the past has come back with a vengeance.
In an attempt to attain world peace most of human history has been censored in the hope that people will forget past conflict. Somehow figures of the past have made their way into the present and have started wreaking havoc. It is your job as the last cop around to deal with these ancient warriors and take back your city!
It was developed in Unreal Engine.
My Role
At the start of the project I worked on the initial combat design much of which couldn't actually be implemented in the time frame we had.
The original design was that the player would have a six chamber revolver which the player could assign a different type of ammunition to each chamber. The player would be able to unlock different types of ammunition as the played such as incendiary rounds which would set enemies on fire or lightning bullets which would chain electricity between enemies. We soon realised that we had massively overscoped for our current skillset and the time we had to make the game.
Through the second half of the project I mostly worked on programming. I coded the games UI and a system to save level progression so players could quit a world and not have to start from the beginning.
Below is the trailer for the game.
